Too Much Speedy Gonzales

Pardon my absence. The truth is, I'm still in shock. In shock that Lela and Cate's first birthday has come and gone. And if last year is any indication, their second birthday is right around the corner. The speed racer-ness of it all is overwhelming and makes me a little sad. Observing and being a part of their development is such a hoot, but knowing that I will never see them this way again is a little heartbreaking. Their innocence and curiosity provide me with an endless source of amazement. I wish I could bottle some of these moments so that I could relive them in 30 second snippets on a whim. My memory just isn't sufficient. I want to remember the feel of their skin, the smell of their breath, the mess of their hair, the way they stand/walk/crawl, the way they look at us when we walk into their room in the morning, or when we dance, or when they act silly with each other. More videos... maybe that will help. But I'll still be sad that these days are gone.

On the flip side, I know that every day will bring more reasons to love this journey with these two most awesome girls.

Birthday Revisited

Another attempt at birthday photos....

Do you sense a pattern here?

Birthday Misadventures

On February 2nd, our babies turned one! ONE!! I can't believe a whole year has gone by.
I knew they wouldn't remember it, but I wanted to make sure we marked their birthday in some fashion. Truth be told, I figured a little photo evidence of a birthday celebration would keep me from earning lame mom status years from now when we pull out the baby books.... oh wait, we don't have baby books. See what I mean!

Our first attempt at a birthday bash was foiled by a family run of the stomach flu.

We had more success the following weekend. John texted invites to friends late on Saturday. We headed up to Bogus Basin for a ski party early Sunday. Friends actually joined us. Some brought balloons. Everyone sang Happy Birthday. I made cupcakes. They looked awesome. And then... Cate got snapped in the face with the party hat elastic. The girls were hungry. And tired. They were crying and I wanted to be. And there was too much light for the photos.

This is the best we could do for photographic evidence...

Not ideal, but it will have to do.

Thankfully, things improved when we hit the ski trail.

Happy Birthday, Cate and Lela!!
