According to the vet, KaiDog will be 16 in August. Thanks, Kai, for being the best geriatric big sister ever!

Hoppy Easter
Well, we had an old purse instead of an Easter basket, egg shakers instead of dyed eggs, Cabbage Patch Cuties instead of bunnies, a trip to the swings instead of an Easter Egg Hunt, and wild spring pants instead of Easter dresses. I'd say it still counts as an A+ Hoppy Easter. Come to think of it, with Kai the Tripod around, every day is Hoppy!
Thanks to Pat and June for the Cabbage Patch Cuties and Keira for the fun spring pants! And thanks to Micki and Bob for Easter-y shirts, Mum and PaPa Hart for the wagon, and Grandma R for the See's Easter Candy.
Not sure what happened here, but I'll call it "The Face of Teething" |

Couch Potato
Me: "It's not like I'm a couch potato."
JR: eyeroll
Me: "What? Are you saying I'm a couch potato?"
JR: Looks to power lines along the road. "Hey, did you see that, uh, bird over there?"
Me: "OMG! You ARE saying I'm a couch potato!"
JR: Changes subject permanently.
Maybe he's right. Maybe I am a couch potato... when I'm not raising two babies, working full time, and finishing grad school.
It'll be years before I let this one go... and joke is on him because I bought a NEW IMPROVED couch!
P.S. My husband is amazing and does indeed do most of the house chores, but this was not his brightest moment :)

Feeling Poopy
We've had a rough few weeks since mid-March.
Lela and I shared a nasty cough through spring break. Emphasis on nasty. And both girls are working on a few molars which have led to varying degrees of sleepless nights, crying, finger chewing, and fevers.
As Lela and I had mostly shaken what ailed us, Cate came down with a cough of her own. Unfortunately this once came with extreme wheezing and a mild ear infection. A trip to evening clinic at the pediatrician's office armed us with a nebulizer and antibiotics but in classic fashion, things got worse before they got better. I heard through the grapevine that Albuterol acts as a stimulant, so we've had a few nights of wide-awake Cate mixed with what seemed to be unbearable ear infection pain and hours of screaming. She's shared our bed for the last two nights. Thankfully, last night screaming Cate was replaced with flopping-fish Cate. Much improved.
In the midst of all this (and I'm sure thanks to my outrageous, spasmadic coughing fits) I became aware that I had an umbilical hernia since pregnancy. The coughing likely caused a push of fatty tissue (pleasant, I know) through the hernia and it was stuck. One hospital visit to P.A. Wendy and her surgeon boss and I'm all fixed up. I haven't looked under the dressing yet, but I'm pretty sure when I do I will find "W.J. was here. 2012." stitched into my belly.
Knock on wood... I think we're all mostly better now.

A house visit by Wendy earned us a stethoscope of our very own! |

Climbing
We've been learning to properly dismount from furniture for a few weeks. "Feet First!"
Evidently we're also now learning to climb onto the furniture. And of course, new adventures are always more fun when you can share them with your BFF.
So, I was puttering in the kitchen and turned back to find this...
And Cate causing trouble...
Before her own head first dismount.
No worries. She survived.
BLOG HINT: I think on any blog post you can click on a photo and it will bring up all post photos in a full page gallery for you to click through. Try it. It's fun!

Travel Solutions
Little did they know they know that as they played, we were envisioning alternative packing strategies that would surely result in more peaceful future flights.
Spring Break, The Beginning of the End of Air Travel
I hope we get to see you all this year (or you're planning a move to the NW) cause I'm pretty sure we're going to be spending most of the next few years within driving distance of Boise. We recently realized that after the girls turn two, our travel airfare expenses will double. Ouch! So, of course we jumped online and purchased tickets to Santa Cruz, St.Louis and New Orleans/Florida. That gets us through Thanksgiving. We're considering a Santa Cruz/St.Louis combo for Christmas... that is unless you would all like to meet in Hawaii again.
That said, it's a good thing we purchased these non-refundable tickets all at once, because after our 90 minute Spring Break flight to Santa Cruz I wanted to cancel all future flights. I've seen worse, but when you're the one stuck wrestling a fussy baby (or two) in a very tight space, it's your own personal disaster.
On the bright side, the dreary Santa Cruz forecast was almost all wrong. The four days of cold and rain became three sunny, warm(ish) charmers and one windy, stormy day of showers (which was also lovely).
The girls managed to maintain all their typical shenanigans throughout our trip.
They found Grandma R's cabinets of miscellaneous kitchen items...
They mostly enjoyed a beach outing complete with high winds, light rain, and tasty pebbles...
Like I said they "mostly" enjoyed it.
Then, of course, we had a little quality family time with Uncle Tom, Aunt Renee, and Jema. Unfortunately, we failed to take pictures with Grandma R on this trip. That's okay, we'll see her again soon!!
It's all fun and games until... well, until it's not.

And a twin evening romp in the ever-so-popular car seat...
It's all fun and games until... well, until it's not.
When it was all said and done, we drove the new Dolly Wagon (kindly donated to the Dolly cause by Grandma R) back to Boise.
Thanks Grandma R!! We love it!
